Using revolutionary new dual codecs to record in two resolutions on separate memory cards, one is in full HD and one is in a smaller web-friendly file. It not only offers very good manual controls and outstanding auto-mode performance, but also shoots very well-balanced pictures in a range of lighting conditions. Meanwhile, GY-HM650 can encode into both MPEG-2 and H.264 formats using MOV, MP4, AVCHD and MXF wrappers, which makes it the most versatile and interoperable camera in the industry.
However, even GY-HM650 has worked with the Advanced Media Workflow Association to establish broadcast-quality MXF file, JVC MXF also has compatibility issue with most Media player and editing systems. Take Avid as an example, sometimes it crash when viewing MXF file. And sometimes you can’t always successfully drag MXF to Avid bin. In order to view MXF file in Avid, you have an option to transcode MXF to native Avid DNxHD MOV for editing.
This tutorial is about how to view JVC GY-HM650 MXF file in Avid, falling into two parts
Part 1: Transcode JVC GY-HM650 MXF to DNxHD MOV for Avid Media Composer

Step1. Accurately load MXF to TransMXF Pro for Mac
Click “add video” or “add folder” to load MXF file. You also can drag MXF to this MXF viewer directly.
In order to avoid of no audio in source MXF file, you’d better to preview loaded MXF files in the preview window to guarantee the output encoded MOV files will also be with sound.
Snapshot function seems pretty good when preview MXF file.
Step2. Click the format bar and select “Avid Media Composer -> Avid DNxHD (*.MOV)”
Click “format”. Under the Avid Media Composer list, you can quickly pick Avid DNxHD (*.MOV) for Avid editing. You can directly enter Avid in the search bar, even faster. The user-friendly format bar of importing JVC GY-HM650 MXF to Avid for Mac will take you less than 30 seconds to select format in this step.
Step3. Click the Settings to set audio and video profile for output AIC MOV
Before transcoding MXF to Avid, you can set video and audio profile for output DNxHD MOV, such as video bitrate, video frame rate, video size, audio channels, etc.
From Profile list, you can easily compare the profile of source MXF and export Avid DNxHD MOV, as well as your free disc space. The triangle icons on the right are to view different tasks.
Step4. Click convert button in the main interface to transcode MXF to MOV for Avid Media Composer
This MXF viewer app will run conversion at super fast speed. Not for a while, I got generated DNxHD MOV with perfect video and audio synchronization. You can preview raw MXF and generated MOV when conversion completed. And with just a click on “Open output folder”, you can locate the output file.
Part 2: Import and view DNxHD MOV generated from source MXF in Avid
Come to this part, TransMXF Pro for Mac has done a super job. MXF is incompatible and it’s hard to play and see MXF videos directly. To view MXF file flawlessly in Avid, a proper option is to transcode MXF to other format with an available MXF viewer.
